Holdens & Co. are proud, family run, artisan ice cream makers.
We have been making our famous award winning dairy ice cream from the same site in Edgworth Village in Lancashire since 1929. Our milk comes from Holstein Friesian cows who graze in the fields of the same farm we’ve always worked with, less than a mile up the road.
We’re proud that our original dairy ice cream has just 6 ingredients. It boasts a buttery rich flavour and traditional texture making for a dense ice cream.This means it doesn’t melt as soon as you look at it and has unique characteristics such as larger ice crystals within. In producing our award winning ice cream, we utilise the very same methods as we did back in 1929 when machinery wasn’t equipped to whip air into ice cream the way it does now.
Since 2010, we have introduced a variety of flavours to our collection. These are made using more modern techniques, whilst retaining the quality, density and richness of our original they are smoother & have a lighter mouthfeel.
Now run by the Cort family, Holdens & Co. cherishes its heritage whilst bringing new ideas and style to the fore.
In October 2016 we opened our second Holdens & Co. site within the newly developed Kitchen Courtyard at Haigh Woodland Park and added two ice cream vans to our offer. In Summer 2023 it was time to move on from the park and consolidate our offering.
In 2022, we opened a further store in Whalley, set deep in the heart of the Ribble Valley. Since opening, we have welcomed rave reviews and truly become part of the local community. With picturesque surroundings and a vibrant social scene, Whalley truly is a lovely store to visit.
In October 2023 we finally opened the doors to our store in Abbey Village in Chorley and in December 2023 we will open our newly expanded site in Whalley, incorporating a new artisan deli and kitchen to the existing Whalley ice cream shop.
By the end of 2023 we will have 3 standout stores, all based in beautiful rural Lancashire locations, all offering our award winning handmade ice cream alongside premium produce from other local artisans. We will showcase the best of Lancashire food and drink and be true destination locations to come and browse, shop and stay and enjoy all the county has to offer in stunning, welcoming settings.
